A Wallflower in Bloom…
Grace is only at the ball because her grandparents want her to catch herself a peer of the realm in order to get her pittance of a dowry. She is only doing it because she wants to take the money to go back to America in order to save her sick mother. She is an outcast and gossiped about just because of the place of her birth. She is running out of time to save her and had decided to put her best foot forward which landed her right in the Earl of Carlise path.
As the story between them unfolds, the goals of each character begin to evolve from finding a means to an end into a love that is strong enough to stand up to the stares and talk of the haute ton. As the second book of the Dukes of War series, it really does live up to the standards set in Viscount’s Christmas Temptation. The story that unfolds between Grace and Oliver is a sweet one. Oliver does everything in his power to help Grace escape the grasp of hir suspicious grandmother and endeavors to reuite mother and daughter even if it means that he allows her to sail back to America without him.
There were quite a few times that I went aww and a few times that I just outright cried. This book was well worth the time invested in it and I can’t wait to crack the digital spine of the third book of the series, The Captain’s Bluestocking Mistress. Keep the good book coming, Erica.
