About the Book:
Amber Johnson is working hard to put herself through school, and has zero interest in dating a professional athlete. She’s seen firsthand how fame and fortune can mess with their heads—her father’s brilliant football career ended in a firestorm of addiction and infidelity. So Duncan’s attentions immediately have her on the defensive. Still, there’s something different about him. And once she stops trying to freeze him out, irresistible temptation turns into all-consuming passion.

For the Love of a Hockey Player
Kelly does an amazing job invoking the emotions from the readers as she writes the story of trust, forgiveness, and finding the strength to love someone despite the fear of being hurt again. As the story progresses, I enjoyed the back and forth between Amber and her roommate and the relationship between Duncan, his roommate, and Duncan’s little sister who is boinking his roommate. I imagine the hilarity around the holiday table between those three. And when it came out about Amber’s familial past, I felt the anger and sadness that Amber must have felt as a teenager when her world fell apart and her trust in her hero, her father, was forever broken.
I also enjoyed following the love story of Duncan and Amber. I cheered them on, cursed both of them out for being stubborn and making assumptions about one another, and I wanted to throw things because they were both frustrating. I will be recommending this book to others because it felt more real than some of the “love stories” that I have read. Sex scenes were tastefully heated and it brought my temperature up enough to break out the fans to keep me from overheating. Bring on the I-C-E!
